First off, draw the out line of the
dress. It can have sleeves or be sorta
tank/halter top, it doesn't really matter,
the focus of this tutorial is the skirt part,
you can do what you want with the
rest. The number of folds depends on
the width of the dress.
Now fill in the out line with color 2
number two.

Using color 5, draw two short line
coming up either side of the fold.
This makes it look kind of square
so shade the corners a bit to create
more of a round effect in the middle.
Also shade the upturns at the side
of the dress a bit.
Extend the two lines in the fold with color 4, and continue shading in a sort of a U-shape. Also begin shading up the sides of the dress.

Further extend the middle lines with
color 3, and continue shading the
middle in the U-shape. In addition, shade
the sides in the U-shape. When you
reach the hips, curve your lines inward.
This just creates more distinction
between the top and bottom parts of the dress.
Now use color 1 to highlight the middle of the dress in a sort of tear drop shape. You can also highlight down the middle of the sides if they need it. The right side of my doll was too closed in already for highlights
so I only did the left.

This next step is entirely optional. I
like to try and get my color to blend
as much and as smoothly as possible,
but if feel your shades already blend
quite nicely you can just do this in
places that are patchy or simply
skip this step altogether. Its a bit
hard to explain so I zoomed in so you can kinda see what I'm talking about. You alternate the two colors in rows. How many rows is up to you.
Just draw the hair and add some acessories, and tadaa, your doll is
finished.
